Light, Dark, and System

Three preferences

• Light — always use Light Tokens.
• Dark — always use Dark Tokens.
• System — follow the device color-scheme preference.

resolvedMode is not a fourth choice

When the preference is system, the runtime resolves whether it is currently light or dark from system settings. This resolvedMode is a momentary runtime result used to apply the correct Tokens; it is not a user preference and is not stored or presented as a separate option.

What happens after refresh

The default runtime saves the theme, the appearance preference, and custom themes. If you choose system, it continues to save system—not the light or dark value that happened to be resolved then.
